Republican Governor of Kansas, Sam Brownback, signed a law into effect on Tuesday that bans all second term abortions. People in support of Brownback's decision are ecstatic, claiming that it was a "groundbreaking step". The governor says that second term abortions are "knowingly dismembering a living unborn child." The law doesn't exactly state the time when a women can't get an abortion anymore, but it says that the dilate and evacuate procedure is now prohibited in Kansas. People in opposition to the law, such as Planned Parenthood, say that the law is "extreme political measures aimed at denying women access to health care and at undermining their decision-making ability." Obviously, the debate about abortion will continue to swing back and forth, but for now Kansas has taken a major step in the conflict.
